The community partner of UMSL’s Center for the Research and Study of Disability, Education and Culture (CRSDEC) initiatives is Variety the Children’s Charity of St. Louis.

The Center teams with Variety programs and its agencies to implement the CRSDEC mission and vision.  Variety serves children and families in the Greater St. Louis Region:

 

60 –           Partner agencies receiving funding from Variety in the St. Louis metro area

301 –         Children who were transported using a Sunshine Coach Van to doctor appointments, therapy  

                  sessions and special outings or activities across the St. Louis area

252 –         Children who received a bike through Variety’s Bikes for Kids program

547 –         Zip codes that are home to families receiving assistance from Variety

2,989 –      Children receiving durable medical equipment - such as wheelchairs, crutches,

                   braces, van lifts and communications devices from Variety

9,467 –       Children served by Variety through special equipment, unique educational and

       recreational programs, and agency funding

$753,348 – Allocated across 60 partner agencies to support programs that directly impact

                   the lives of children with physical and intellectual disabilities

 

The E. Desmond Lee Endowed Professor serves on Variety’s Board of Directors, Parent Advisory Council, and Strategic Planning Committee, and participates in their special events that include Variety Children’s Theatre, Community Education Forum, and Bikes for Kids; and Dinner with the Stars and Runway Lights Fashion Show, where event proceeds fund Variety initiatives that benefit children with disabilities.
